Pebble smartwatch outs SDK preview at Google I/O, gives developers a kickstart on apps

If you invested in the Pebble e-paper smartwatch - and who didn't. - you'll be happy to hear that the firm has unleashed a preview of the Kickstarter darling's SDK at Google I/O this week. That'll give developers a head start on creating apps for the ARM-powered e-paper device, allowing them to learn exactly how it receives data from Mountain View's robot OS. The company said the new kit supports multiple program languages to boot, allowing developers of all skill levels to create Pebble-enabled apps.

HTC suggests Verizon's Droid Incredible 4G LTE will be launched next week

HTC USA has tweeted that they've got "some special fun" ready for next week, and it's going to be "incredible.". We've recently heard that Verizon's Droid Incredible 4G LTE would be released on July 5 - hence next week - so the tweet can certainly be seen as a confirmation of this.

You, sir or ma'am, should probably not get too excited. Chances are, this trans-Pacific 10 Gigabit link won't do you any good, personally. On the other hand, researchers working together across the oceanic divide have tons to cheer about. The China Education and Research Network, the National Science Foundation and Indiana University worked together with BGI, one of the largest genomics organizations in the world, to christen the connection by transferring 24 Gigabytes of genomic data from Beijing to UC Davis in under 30 seconds.

HTC teases something 'Incredible' for the US in July, we think a 4G LTE Droid might fit the bill

HTC has been leaving Verizon subscribers hanging on just when they would get the Droid Incredible 4G LTE ever since we saw it in New Orleans last month. The company just dropped a not-so-subtle hint that the wait is about to come to an end - a Twitter update from HTC's US branch is promising some "special fun" coming to us next week that will be "incredible," which we're pretty sure doesn't involve refurb sales of the 2010 original. While the clue is still a bit cryptic, it lines up with internal documents pointing to a July 5th release.

Just when you're numbing to robot, zombie and nuclear apocalypse scenarios, some old-fashioned asteroid paranoia pops up to surprise you. The B612 Foundation, which gets funding from, well, anyone, has just announced plans to launch Sentinel, a space telescope which will wander the vacuum cataloging asteroids in our inner solar system. Their goal is to track asteroid orbits and predict large impacts up to 100 years in advance, giving us plenty of time to find a solution (or enjoy our final days).

Google prepping Nexus 10 tablet, report claims

. Google is reportedly planning a 10-inch version of its Nexus 7 tablet, according to a report from Digitimes. The tablet's display panels will be supplied by Wintek and AU Optronics; Google previously ordered 500,000 touch panels from Wintek for its Nexus 7 tablet in June, the report claims. Google's Andy Rubin revealed earlier this year that the Mountain View-based company was doubling down on the tablet market in 2012. Google is betting big on its 7-inch slate and based on its performance, could quite possibly release a larger model to compete with Apple's iPad.

Point Gray FL3-U3-88S2C 4K Camera Connects to USB 3.0

While it has been easier to get a decent 1080p webcam these days, most people wouldn't search for a 4K camera – but maybe they should. Point Grey just came up with this very interesting pocket webcam that claims to record in 4K (4096×2160 pixels, or 8.8 Million pixels) over USB 3.0. This is huge and right now, very few displays would be capable of showing the images in their full glory, but even on a 2880×1800 display, which is the highest that consumers can get, it should look very nice. That said, there are hurdles to overcome. For one, there is the network matter.

Samsung brings out WB100 camera with 26x lens for zoom-loving Brits

Samsung has been quiet on the superzoom camera front, but it's leaping back into the fray with the WB100. The camera doesn't have the longest zoom we've seen, but with a 26x lens and a wide-angle 22.3mm minimum zoom, odds are that just about anything you come across during vacation will fit into the frame. A choice to use AA batteries instead of a lithium-ion pack also emphasizes that focus on travelers. We're otherwise looking at a very deliberately middle-of-the-road camera with a 16-megapixel sensor, ISO 80 to 1,600 sensitivity (3,200 if you like 3-megapixel photos) and 720p movie making.

Valve Source Filmmaker makes a movie out of any Source game, now you're directing with Portals

Creating machinima with a video game engine usually requires accepting one of two truths: either that it will require a lot of fudging or that it will have all the sophistication of playing with action figures. Valve Software isn't very happy with that dichotomy, which is why it's posting its very own movie-making tool, Source Filmmaker, as a public beta. Any game that runs on the Source engine, whether it's Left 4 Dead 2, Portal 2 or another in the family, can have gameplay run-throughs edited and dissected right down to custom facial expressions.

The Q1 earnings news from RIM of layoffs and a delay in its next generation of handsets has unsurprisingly led to some rumors from the usual "people familiar with the situation," according to Reuters. The options reportedly being considered by the board probably also won't shock you, like the possibility of following former co-CEO Jim Balsillie's plan to open up its network to others and / or or sell it outright. An alternative path comes from Microsoft and Steve Ballmer, who has reportedly been putting a full court press on the folks in Waterloo to pull a Nokia and bring their arms to the Windows OS camp.

Google has just announced a new feature for Google Play that's sure to please anyone who's sat through an app update that never seemed to end. It now offers what it calls “Smart App Updates,” which will let developers provide incremental updates to apps instead of forcing people to download a whole new APK for every minor update. On average, Google says those should be about a third the size of typical updates. What's more, the company has also announced that it is bringing added encryption measures to Android, which will let paid apps be encrypted with a device-specific key that makes them harder to rip and share.

Researchers at Boston Children's Hospital were able to design tiny, gas-filled microparticles that can be injected directly into the bloodstream to oxygenate blood. These microparticles are reportedly made up of a single layer of lipids or fatty molecules that surround a tiny pocket of oxygen gas and are immersed in a liquid solution. According to Dr. John Kheir of the Department of Cardiology at Boston Children's Hospital, when these microparticles were infused into animals that have low blood oxygen levels, the blood oxygen saturated to almost normal in a matter of seconds.

Those of us yearning to bring Huawei's Ascend D Quad on summer vacation will have to file that dream away for next year. The company's consumer division chief, , has pushed back the phone's volume production from this month to August. Blame for the setback rests squarely on that custom-developed K3V2 processor - there have been "technical problems" getting it ready, if we go by Huawei's less than precise explanation. The timing certainly isn't what we'd call ideal: now that the Galaxy S III and One X are both common features of the smartphone landscape, the Ascend D Quad's performance won't be turning nearly as many heads when it arrives.

Yes, the Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC was released today just like how we speculated yesterday, and for those who feel that they are still not satisfied, how about a little bit of good news to help you end your Tuesday evening on a high note. Producer Mike Gamble from BioWare tweeted earlier today, that there will be future DLCs coming your way for Mass Effect 3 – and the team at BioWare are certainly working on developing that aspect even further at the moment. “Would now be a good time to talk about how we're doing more DLC in the future?” was his first tweet, followed by “That was a trick question.

Motorola patent win might result in US import ban for Apple

Hmmm, long and drawn out affairs in the court room is definitely not something that companies would want to go through, but Apple and Motorola have had their fair share of legal spats in the past. One of the latest developments see the U.S. International Trade Commission announce that it will review an April ruling which decidedly targeted select Apple products to have infringed upon a Motorola Wi-Fi patent, and this might just result in an import ban on products that make use of this bit of technology.

Apple released the first version of the iOS 6 beta for developers during the WWDC keynote on June 11. Now, two weeks later, the second beta is being seeded to those installed the first on their iOS devices. The update brings several bug fixes and performance updates, including fixes for the Address Book, Game Center, iCloud, iMessage and FaceTime, Maps and Safari. Facebook's Find Friends Nearby: GPS lets you give nearby mobile users a Friendshake

A mobile Facebook feature called Find Friends Nearby, previously code-named Friendshake, is coming out of development and will soon be on its way to your iOS or Android phone. Perhaps springing from the social network's acquisition of ambient social app Glancee, it's still fairly primitive, merely navigating to a browser page on your device, where it will show you a list of other users within a given, undisclosed radius. Presumably, the benefit is to let you quickly add someone in your purview like Find my Friends, although we're interested to see what privacy settings are on offer. You never know, Mr.

Cisco won't be the fastest out of the gate with an 802.11ac WiFi router, but it's certainly one of the most ambitious. The dual-band Linksys EA6500 and a companion, single-band Universal Media Connector network bridge hike the bandwidth up to 802.11ac's 1.3Gbps peak, each of them carrying their own quartet of gigabit Ethernet jacks. A pair of USB ports on the EA6500 should make sharing storage that much faster as well. If you ask Cisco, however, the real highlight is the new Cisco Connect Cloud app platform.
