CM9 Nightly Builds for Galaxy S i9000/i9000B now available

There was an understandable hue and cry when Samsung announced that the original Galaxy S would not receive an Ice Cream Sandwich update. Manufacturers’ love for their custom UIs had won again, and all that Samsung promised to calm down the mob was a ‘value pack’. But, as we all knew, the developer community wouldn’t let such a popular phone die an early death. There are a few ROMs on XDA already, and users can also now get a taste of CM9 with their nightly builds.

Do remember this is for the international (and the Brazilian) version only.

Are you an avid comic collector. I remember the early days of Image Comics where Jim Lee was recruited, and the company's main strength lay in the gorgeous visuals, but story-wise, Image Comics failed to deliver the kind of substance that Marvel and DC had established over the past decades. Apart from that, Valiant Comics, too, entered the scene at around the same time, and I remember Joe Queseda's work on X-O Manowar alongside the beautiful cover of issue #0 that was quite the rage in the speculator's market.

Judge says Chrysler doesn't have to reinstate closed dealers

Chrysler made the difficult (and controversial) decision in 2009 to close 789 dealerships leading up to the automaker's abbreviated bankruptcy. The move helped Chrysler eliminate some redundancies and limit in-brand competition, but many of the dealers who lost their franchises weren't at all pleased with the move. It didn't take long for many of those dealers to sue Chrysler for the right to stay in business, and the court cases are still being settled in 2012.

RIM CEO Thorsten Heins reportedly 'clearing house,' laying off numerous executives

With BlackBerry World only weeks away and RIM's earnings report merely hours away, it looks as if newly-appointed CEO Thorsten Heins will be leading it with quite the bang. While Heins has done a truly exceptional job of laying low (really low) during his first few months in the corner office, he's evidently been hard at work rearranging chairs. mentally, at least. According to The Globe and Mail's Iain Marlow, a trusted source has informed him that the BlackBerry maker's head honcho has begun "clearing house," with senior vice presidents and VP-level executives being informed of the imminent changes today.

Nissan has released the fifth and final teaser of its all-new 2013 Altima sedan ahead of the car's official debut at the 2012 New York Auto Show. It's a good thing this is the last one, because Nissan has seen fit to show off almost the entire car, albeit very quickly and never stationary. It's plain to see that this new Altima will be much swoopier than before, with a highly stylized front fascia and a steep D-pillar arc. We also note a rising body line that starts above the side mirrors before heading over the rear haunches to the taillamps.

Apple patents Siri-like system for controlling cameras, PMPs through a computer or smartphone

"Siri, turn on the flash and take three pictures with my camera after waiting two seconds." Apple's intelligent voice control system has been wildly popular amongst consumers in the U.S., and abroad, but Siri could be making her way to other devices in the future, including iPods, cameras and other consumer electronics. "Okay, Rock God, I will take your picture in two, one..." A patent by Apple filed in 2010 but published today describes a scenario in which you could control a secondary electronic device using your voice, with all of the backend processing passing through a connected smartphone or computer.

GM turns to MTV to sell cars to younger generations

Car companies worldwide have had a terrible track record creating cars that attract hip, young buyers. Despite all their best efforts to cater to the cool cats, the 18-24 demographic prefers to defy categorization. But now it seems car companies have a new, more vexing problem. The 18-24 crowd doesn't want cars at all.

General Motors knows all too well about its aging demographics and has turned to a creative new marketing firm to have a shot at bringing down the age of their average buyer. The firm is called Scratch and is part of MTV (owned by Viacom).

The Thermaltake Level 10 GT PC case is quite a sight on its own, but it's also proven to be popular among case modders, who have taken things to some considerable extremes in the past year. One of the most impressive to date is this so-called AzTtec mod by bit-tech.net member dmcgrath, who's ditched the usual LEDs and gaming inspirations in favor of something that makes even steampunk look thoroughly modem by comparison. To do that, he carved the enclosure you see above by hand out of a material called Balsa Foam, and then proceeded to painstakingly paint it and adorn it foliage and other tiny details.

NHTSA wants to issue larger fines for safety and recall infractions

Toyota made all kinds of news during its recall woes, with one headline item being the record-breaking $32.4 million civil penalty it paid to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The charge was levied by NHTSA because it considered Toyota tardy in announcing its recalls, and was almost twice the additionally record-setting $16.4 million fine that Toyota paid to address the recall itself. According to a report in Reuters, though, NHTSA Administrator David Strickland believes that such fines aren't strong enough deterrents for automakers. Currently the maximum fine the NHTSA can levy per infraction is $17 million.

It's easy for life to imitate art when you're armed with near billion dollar coffers. Taking a cue from his 1989 hit, The Abyss, James Cameron made a solo plunge down to the deepest part of the Earth - a spot seven miles below sea level known as the Challenger Deep - and recorded his journey in 3D for our slack-jawed, couchbound amusement. The terrain, described by Cameron as both "desolate" and "lunar," is part of the Mariana Trench and had remained unexplored by humanity since the Trieste first touched down in 1960.
