Audi pushing DOT to allow its sequential LED turn signals [w/videos]

Audi pushing DOT to allow its sequential LED turn signals [w/videos]

Still in the process of trying to get its trick LED Matrix Beam headlights legalized in the US, Audi is now trying to get its front and rear sequential LED turn signals approved by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Just like its auto-dimming headlights, the sequentially illuminating turn signals don't meet NHTSA's Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108. The problem, according to Automotive News, is that the individual lighting elements are too small to meet current US safety regulations.

Audi's Mike Rockenfeller takes DTM title

Since its return in 2010 as the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, German touring car racing has been largely a game of cat and mouse – the cat being Audi and the mouse being Mercedes-Benz. Or vice versa, take your pick. Because through 2011, each had won the drivers' championship six times (Mercedes still dominating the constructors' championship standings). But then BMW jumped back in last season and won the title in its first year back on the grid.

Paper. The curse of our record management as 21st century humans. The promise of computers has always been “the paperless office,” but most computer users have produced more paper, rather than less. The need for a piece of paper for giving information to someone else, “sign and return” situations like leases and contracts, and the wealth of information available only on paper has contributed (via photocopiers) to this avalanche of paper in which we find ourselves.

Samsung Galaxy S4 to get Android 4.3 in October, Galaxy S3 and Note 2 in November

Rumors of Android 4.3 soon coming to the Galaxy S34, S3 and Note 2 have been circulating the internet, but now we have a bit of proof. French carrier SFR has released a roadmap table with information about their devices' upcoming OTA updates. According to SFR, the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 should be getting Android 4.3 Jelly Bean sometime in November-December, while the almighty Galaxy S4 is set to receive it in October. Now, we are not sure how long it will take our carriers to catch up. We know how American carriers can be and don't expect most of them to be on time, but at least we know Samsung is almost ready to get things going.

Nevada now allowing motorcycles to run red lights legally

Nevada now allowing motorcycles to run red lights legally

As of next Tuesday, October 1, motorcyclists, cyclists, moped and tri-wheel riders in Nevada will be legally allowed to run red lights under one condition: there is no other traffic around, and they have waited at the light through two red-light cycles. When light sensors under the road don't detect a two-wheeled vehicle it can leave a rider sitting a light until a car shows up, or the rider will need to dismount and press the "Walk" button to get the light to change. The law was passed in order to provide a more expedient way to deal with the situation. Nevada isn't the first state to consider and pass such a law.

Theft of third-row SUV seats on the rise? (video)

Thefts of third-row seats are on the rise, according to a report by KABC-TV 7, a trend highlighted by the recent burglary of third-row seats from 16 sport utility vehicles at a Chevrolet dealership in Simi Valley, California. According to the Los Angeles ABC affiliate, thieves stole the seats in the dead of night after disabling the lot's light posts and breaking into the vehicles through their rear windows. At that point, a couple of simple latches securing each third row of seats to the interiors were all that stood between the thieves and what is estimated to be about $48,000 in stolen goods.

Many brands come and go over the years, but a lot of Sony's seem to have the type of staying power that not many other manufacturers can say they enjoy. Bravia is a mainstay in television, Playstation in gaming, and so on. Now, another classic franchise is staying buoyed with another relevance-saving release. We're talking about the Walkman brand, and Sony has four new models coming to the table.
Two of those models — the ZX1 and F880 — run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Nokia Treasure Tag Accessory Leaked

Nokia Treasure Tag Accessory Leaked

Back in July, it was revealed that Nokia had a new accessory that they would be debuting in the near future called the "Treasure Tag". At that time all we had was a diagram of the device, but thanks to the ever-reliable @evleaks, a photo of the accessory has since been leaked. For those unfamiliar with the accessory, the Treasure Tag is essentially a Bluetooth/NFC tag that can be used to pair with a smartphone, such as a Nokia Lumia device for example. It will make use of Bluetooth 4.0 which will be supported in the Windows Phone GDR2 update and basically it acts as a homing beacon for object.

Lamborghini Cabrera spotted attacking the 'Ring

The Gallardo has, far and away, been the most successful model in Lamborghini's history. But despite more updates and derivatives than we can count, after a decade on the market, it's grown a little long in the proverbial tooth – to such an extent that it's seldom entered into comparison tests with rivals like the Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren 12C. But Lamborghini is out to fix that with an all-new model. Tipped to be called "Cabrera," the new baby Lambo is expected to share an all-new platform with the next Audi R8 and possibly a new Porsche.

Oppo turned a few heads today at its unveiling in China of the new Oppo N1, where it introduced a 13MP camera capable of rotating 206-degrees from front to back. This means that your front-facing images should theoretically be just as good as your rear-facing ones - it is one and the same camera after all. The images are processed by Oppo's new Pure Image algorithm, which they claim offers realistic and vivid image quality, as well as better white balance, exposure and focus. The lens itself is made up of six physical lenses of f/2.0 aperture.

One great thing about sites like Kickstarter is this, you can more or less gauge its "success" even before the actual deal is manufactured, since the number of backers who put money on where their mouths are certainly depict their unwavering faith in a particular project. Sometimes, when they have hit their financial goal but the money continues to pour in, it is then time to introduce the idea of stretch goals.

Over the weekend, you may have heard of an unfortunate episode that affected the official launch of Blackberry Messenger for Android and iOS. A leaked version of the application was made available to the eager public, except this build wasn't one meant to be released. A bug inside this build caused the million or so people who downloaded the app to put extra strain on Blackberry's servers, rendering BBM inoperable for many people (including those using the service on devices like the Blackberry Q10 and Z10).
Unfortunately for us, Blackberry had to delay launch to figure out how to deal with the overload that this incident caused.

Camera phones have taken over as the go-to image maker for most folks. Now that the quality of the pictures created is good enough to replace your old point-and-shoot, there's still one thing that hampers good photographic technique: holding the camera in landscape mode. Most cameras – I mean smartphones – tend to be set up to use in portrait mode – with the long axis vertically. But most photos – and especially videos – are better viewed in landscape, with the long axis horizontally.

LG had a phablet before the Optimus G Pro, the LG Optimus Vu, and two generations of it, at that. Now the company has put out its third iteration, and following its new naming convention it's just LG Vu 3 (no "Optimus"). The LG Vu 3 drops the squarish looks of the first two iterations and goes for a more rounded look that is similar to the Optimus G Pro (but not the LG G2 - there are hardware buttons below the screen). The Vu family has always had 4:3 screens and this one is no exception.

This time around it's got a 5.2" IPS LCD screen of 1,280 x 960 resoluiton which results in 307ppi pixel density.
