Problems with the Apple iPhone 4S

It seems like whenever a new mobile phone is released for the first time, there are often kinks that must be worked out of the device. No matter how many tests the product undergoes before being released, there are going to be things wrong with it once the general public has access from retailers like Dial a phone.

Google's Sundar Pichai confirms that offline Google Drive 'coming in five weeks,' hints at ad-supported Chromebook

During the closing session here at D10 in California, Google's on Senior Vice President of Chrome & Apps Sundar Pichai was joined by Susan Wojcicki (SVP of Advertising at Google) at Walt Mossberg. Sundar was able to drive the majority of the conversation in the realm of Chrome and Chrome OS, and quite a few interesting nuggets were dropped. For one, he made an offhand comment that "offline Google Drive [is] coming in five weeks," a clue that it'll be revealed and launched in full at Google I/O next month.

UK: Acer Allegro with Windows Phone 7.5 now just £139.99

The Acer Allegro can now be bought in the UK, in SIM-free and unlocked form, for just £139.99. That's amazingly cheap for a smartphone running Windows Phone 7.5 (codenamed Mango), especially since the Allegro initially went for about €300 (which is £240-ish). If you're interested in an affordable Windows Phone, you should know that we haven't seen one cheaper than this yet. And while the Nokia Lumia 610 may be marketed as such, in fact it is more expensive. And it has just 256 MB of RAM, which means that some apps and games don't work on it (most notable at the moment: Skype and Angry Birds).

Google+ Events leaks out through Google Calendar, will let your knitting circle schedule a Hangout

Google has been on another one of its Google+ feature addition streaks lately, and it's so eager to please that it's spoiling other features early. More than a few people visiting Google Calendar have been given an introduction to "Events in Google+" in recent hours despite the extra component (and its splash page) being absent. From what we know, Events will provide the obvious Facebook-like option to create and track events among Google+ circles, but it will also let organizers slot in a Hangout video chat in advance as well as pool together photos and videos associated with an event.

Regarding style and look, there are three different colors including white, black, and silver for the 17″ model, but the smaller 15″ is offered in white and black only, no silver. You will also find that the 17″ model has larger HDD capacity at 750GB, but this feature is upgradable, right. It's not a big deal. Evernote Hello now available for Android

Evernote Hello now available for Android

Evernote is one of my personal favorite apps on my Android device. When I first heard that the company will be introducing a juicy feature called Evernote Hello to the app last year, I was naturally thrilled. So I searched for the app via Google Play – then-Android Market – and to my dismay I found out that it was only available for the iPhone. But patience has its rewards. Today, Evernote is finally bringing Evernote Hello to Android.

Press pics of Gigabyte's X11 lightweight laptop reportedly pop up online

Last week, Gigabyte teased us with the promise of a new bantam laptop, the X11, that would be the "lightest notebook on earth." Today, it appears the good folks at Pocket-lint have taken a bit of the wind out of the company's sails by posting a plethora of press pics of the new machine for all the world to see. Naturally, we can't say for sure that this is the forthcoming X11, but whatever it is, it's a slim little black beauty that looks to be right at home with the MacBook Airs and Ultrabooks of the world - it's got a wedge-shaped silhouette and a modicum of external connectivity (one USB socket and one DisplayPort).

This impressive wrist / forearm cuff is the brainchild of Adafruit forum member and modder Stephanie, who has built a sensor platform into the fashion accessory. The device can monitor the exposure value, track your movements over GPS, measure your galvanic skin response, tell you the temperature, humidity and even doubles as a watch and flash-light. It was built around Sparkfun's Pro Micro development board and a boatload of sensors purchased from Adafruit.

Movies encoded into gas, are gas chambers the new cinemas?

So we listen to music from an MP3 file or a CD most of the time, and watch movies on Blu-ray, DVD or head to the cinemas. How about changing the way we do the latter, through inhaling some gas. No, I am not talking about doing anything illegal here, but it seems that scientists have managed to come up with a way to stash away video in a totally new format – gas. This is the first time in history where images are stashed in a non-solid format, and can be played back afterwards.

The LG Prada 3.0 (or Prada Phone by LG 3.0, or Prada Phone 3.0 by LG – the company doesn't seem to be very clear about this phone's name) has been available in the UK since February. So far, the pricing's been indicative of a typical high-end Android smartphone. But now you have the chance of getting a pretty decent handset for a great price. And let's not forget that it has the name Prada slapped on its front – that's got to be worth something to someone.
The Prada 3.0 can now be yours for just £239.99, a far cry from the £400+ you were previously required to pay for this exact same device.

Aaron Sorkin talks about future Steve Jobs movie, impact of technology on his writing

You don't have to look far to get a grasp on who Aaron Sorkin is - he wrote A Few Good Men, The American President, The West Wing, Moneyball and The Social Network, for starters - and he showed up at D10 to talk creative media, how the digital age impacts his writing and his impending movie about late Apple CEO Steve Jobs. While not involving hard technology news, the interview was exceedingly refreshing, and it delved deep into the world of tech as it impacts his upcoming show about a fictional newsroom (The Newsroom on HBO).

Seeking Porsche's Purest Sports Car. In 1996 when Porsche only offered the 911 Carrera for sale, choosing its purest sports car was easy. But today, Porsche offers five different models and the answer is rather muddy. None of its high performance vehicles, from coupe to roadster and sedan to sport utility, are easily dismissed, as each is capable of shattering the 60 mph benchmark in under five seconds and topping out at over 170 mph.

On one hand, determining the quickest is easy (911 Turbo S). And it takes only a moment to calculate the most expensive (Panamera Turbo S) or the one with the greatest cargo capacity (Cayenne).

States asking Congress for the right to add toll roads to close budget gaps

Governments need to pay for things, and when traditional sources of revenue decline, other sources are found. To deal with the urgent needs of the highway infrastructure system and, if possible, add capacity, states need a lot more money than they currently have. Unable to get more from Congress, since Congress remains opposed to raising the gas tax, states are asking for the right to skip the gas-pump middleman and go straight to your wallet in the form of toll roads.

Flipboard beta coming to all Android devices soon, hopes to handle resolution variety with poise

Eagle-eyed readers might remember that Flipboard's long-awaited port to Android started with a fair amount of confusion; it showed up (seemingly at random) on Samsung's Galaxy S III, but soon after, we learned that it would only be available for that very phone over on the Android side of things. Recently, we uncovered the story of why, and what the company's planning for the future. Put simply, that "device diversity" that keeps developers on their toes is at the forefront of the issue here.

Legal systems company Zylpha (www.zylpha.com) has launched a cloud-based legal panel automation system specifically for local authorities. The authorities use the panel system to manage the distribution of legal cases to specialist panels of barristers representing them. Zylpha’s new Panel Management System automates this process completely and delivers high quality management information to users on the progress and cost of cases. Originally, the concept for the system was the brainchild of Gerard Kamath (Joint Legal Services Business Manager, for the London Boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark).

Watch the world's most epic wheel-to-wheel paintball battle

Those of you who've played paintball know the game rarely turns out how you imagined it. The weapons fire a .68 caliber blob using compressed air, and as such, they have all the accuracy of a pool noodle fired from a howitzer. That doesn't make it any less fun to track your friends down through the woods and paint them dayglow pink, though. One filmmaker has decided to show off exactly what the game looks like in the imaginations of 12-year-old boys everywhere by throwing in unsanctioned weaponry like full-on Nitro Circus Baja trucks, airfoils, ATVs, motocross bikes, Jeep Wrangler troop carriers and plenty of dirt jumps.

In love with the classic DB4 GT. You're in good company. The first of a series of collaborations between Aston Martin and Zagato is one of the most beautiful automobiles ever made. But getting your hands on one would not be a cheap proposition.
After initially unveiling the DB4 GT at the 1960 London Motor Show, Aston Martin built 19 examples through 1963. In 1991 an additional four examples were built, followed by another pair in 2000. But no matter which batch you're looking at, prices still exceed the million-dollar mark whenever one goes up for auction.

Huawei to introduce Emotion UI for upcoming Android phones

It appears Huawei is going to introduce a new user interface that will be featured on some of their summer releases. They’re reportedly calling it Emotion UI and it should be first available on the Huawei Ascend P1 and Ascend P1s, as well as the Huawei D Quad, their quad-core flagship offering. The devices had minimal user interface customization when we revisited them at CTIA in New Orleans, but it was undoubtedly very early and unfinished.

PSA: Resetting your phone risks upsetting Google Wallet, unless you do it right

Spare a thought for Google Wallet users who have learned this the hard way, but at least you won't have to fall into the same little-known trap. Essentially, if you have a Galaxy Nexus, HTC EVO 4G LTE or any other compatible handset and you perform a factory reset, there's a high chance you'll spoil the secure element that is designed to protect your NFC chip from tampering. This disables Google Wallet and it seems there's no fix once that happens, other than calling up a friendly (and hopefully interactive) customer service agent.

LG Display debuts five-inch Retina Display killer with 1080p HD resolution and 440ppi pixel density

Smartphone displays are becoming larger in size, and along with that, we're seeing a nice trend that's bringing greater pixel density. While LG Display's newly-announced 1080p HD mobile display isn't the most pixel dense that we've seen — a distinction that belongs to Toshiba — the five-inch panel is more appropriate for consumer applications and boasts an impressive pixel density of 440ppi.

Autonomous road train project SARTRE completes first public road test

It was last year when we first wrote about SARTRE, the technology and idea that cars can travel autonomously in a train-like convey. SARTRE, also known as Safe Road Trains for the Environment, aims to develop strategies and technologies that will allow vehicles to operate on normal public highways with significant environmental, safety and comfort benefits. Basically, the idea was to have a lead driver tow a train of cars behind it. Tests have been going on at Volvo's test track in Sweden last year.

NHK camera does 4 billion pixels each second

So, OmniVision did roll out a new 16-megapixel image sensor with 4k video capture capability that should see use in smartphones and other mobile devices down the road, while we also know that NHK Hybridcast delivers an interactive experience for broadcast TV, so what does NHK have up their sleeves today. It seems that the Japanese firm has come up with a camera that relegates Full HD to the history bin, where their new camera is capable of capturing and ‘digesting' a cool 4 billion pixels per second, which translates to capturing 33-megapixel footage at 120 frames per second.

For the majority of us, Memorial Day is synonymous with things like swimming pools, barbecues, road trips and, most of all, a day off from the nine-to-five grind. It's the unofficial start of summer. But we mustn't forget about the real reason why we celebrate Memorial Day – to pay tribute to the men and women who have fallen while serving our country.
