Nielsen Will Soon Launch Program That Counts Internet TV Viewers

Nielsen Will Soon Launch Program That Counts Internet TV Viewers

Watching TV has gone beyond sitting in front of your television screen to watch a show as it is aired as the inclusion of DVRs and online streams have made it possible to watch a new episode of your favorite show at any time. That's why the Wall Street Journal's report of Nielsen possibly launching a digital program to cover Internet streaming makes complete sense. According to the WSJ, Nielsen's TV ratings system will soon be able to count Internet views through its “Nielsen Digital Program Ratings” pilot program.

Wacom Cintiq 22HD Touch Announced

Wacom has just announced yet another tablet of theirs, which would come in the form of the Wacom Cintiq 22HD touch. All right, so 22" might seem a tad too large for it to be called a tablet, but do let me have the liberty of calling it that for the moment. This 22" pen display would feature multi-touch functionality, which is somewhat familiar to those who have spotted the Cintiq 24HD that was launched not too long ago.

HP SlateBook 10 X2 Rumor

HP SlateBook 10 X2 Rumor

It was just yesterday when we were talking about how the HP Slate 7 is more than ready to make its mark in the market, especially since it is made available to folks living across the pond in the form of a pre-order. Well, it seems that the HP Slate 7 is not the only tablet that HP has in mind for the masses, as they do seem to be working on the launch of a spanking new high-end Android powered device, which will be called the HP SlateBook 10 X2. Yeah, beats me as to why the HP SlateBook 10 X2 is named that way, considering how there was no predecessor of sorts to it (ala HP SlateBook 10 X, anyone.

Google Now for iOS hands-on

Google Now for iOS hands-on

While there are few data sources missing, in our brief time with the app, we didn't discover any that we'd consider dealbreakers. (Honestly, the nearby events card has never actually resulted in us running out to buy tickets to something.) Where Google Now for iOS falls short, though, is in its convenience. On Android, Now is just a swipe or a long-press away; on an iOS device, you need to first launch the Google search app, then swipe up from where your cards are peeking out at the bottom of the screen. You also can't simply say "Google" to launch a voice search from within Now. Worst of all, there are no alerts or notifications.

Times are hard for some folks living around the world, as the economies of various countries are not said to be purring across all fronts actually. Some companies do find it difficult to remain afloat in such moments, and more often than not, it is not the "head" that goes, but rather, the "body", so to speak. Case in point, it seems that Square Enix has confirmed that they will be laying off folks at European as well as UK offices.

IRL: Skullcandy Crusher headphones and ASUS' G74SX gaming laptop

It's true; most Engadget editors would prefer some sort of Ultrabook-type laptop for attending pressers and schlepping around trade shows. But at least one of us has chosen a nine-pound gaming laptop for hitting posts. (It even says "Republic of Gamers" on it.) Speaking of schlepping, Michael has taken back (almost) everything he's ever said about over-the-ear headphones after swapping in the Skullcandy Crushers on his long commute. Hit the break to find out what he thinks of them.

Honda recalls 2012-13 Fit Sport models over stability control issue

Honda is recalling 43,782 examples of the 2012 and 2013 Fit Sport in the US and close to 2,000 more in Canada. During federal compliance testing it was discovered that the software for the Vehicle Stability Assist allows an excessive tilt angle before applying the brakes to prevent a crash. The issue only affects Fit Sports equipped with a certain kind of tire. TORRANCE, Calif. – Apr. 26, 2013 – Honda will voluntarily recall 43,782 model-year 2012-2013 Fit Sport vehicles in the United States to update the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) system software, free of charge.

Ethiopian Airlines First To Start Boeing 787 Dreamliner Commercial Flights

Back in January Boeing's latest airplane, the 787 Dreamliner, was grounded because of fire related incidents caused by its battery system. Last week the flight ban was finally lifted after nearly three months of the global fleet being grounded. On 27th April, Saturday that is, Ethiopian Airlines became the first airline to begin the first 787 Dreamliner commercial flight with paying passengers on board. This was the first commercial flight since January, 2013.
The flight took off from Addis Ababa and landed safely in Nairobi. The 787 Dreamliner airplane used on this flight is one of the four that Ethiopian Airlines has in its fleet.

Boston bombers were tracked using Mercedes mbrace (video)

We now know Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the two brothers said to be behind the Boston Marathon bombings, planned to head for New York City to detonate more improvised explosive devices. As it turns out, that plan was foiled by the quick thinking of one Mercedes-Benz owner, diligent police work and the Mercedes-Benz mbrace system. When the brothers carjacked a 26-year-old Chinese entrepreneur identified only as "Danny," they didn't realize his Mercedes-Benz M-Class was equipped with the mbrace system, which can call for help in the event of an accident or track the vehicle in the event of a theft.

Charge your devices without an outlet with a Folding USB Solar Cell

I love to be away from the world at times. Whether I am at the beach, up in the mountains, or just hanging outside, I always have my phone with me. The thought of being ‘green' and being able to keep my devices charged when I am out on the go made me take interest in the 5W and 7W Folding USB Solar Cell by Brown Dog Gadgets. These solar cells fold up on each other for protection and portability when not in use. To use them, you simply unfold them and face the cells towards the sunlight, with options to suction them to a window or tie them to a backpack, and plug in your USB charging cable to one of the two USB ports.

IIHS survey says D.C. residents like speed and red-light cameras

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) released a study this week that seems to go against what critics and the media have been reporting for years. According to the report, some people – more specifically, a large majority of the residents in Washington D.C. – actually like red light and speed cameras. The study, conducted in November 2012, interviewed 801 people who live in the District. Of those surveyed over the phone, 71 percent had driven and walked in the city during the past month, 23 percent had walked and not driven and 4 percent had driven and not walked.

Carfax slapped with $50M antitrust suit by 120 dealers

In December 2012 Automotive News published a piece on dealers unhappy with Carfax, alleging that the most well known used vehicle history reporting company had maneuvered itself into a monopolistic position. Dealers were paying the price for it by being charged more for Carfax reports than they'd have to pay for those from similar agencies, and there was nothing they could do about it. Now it will be for a judge to figure out: Automotive News reports that 120 dealers have joined a class-action lawsuit against Carfax over anti-competitive practices and violations of anti-trust law, and more are signing up to join the suit.

Ukky iPhone app journals your child's life, gives your Facebook followers a break

In a nutshell, users are able to create timelines for each of their children, and then upload photos and videos as their lives progress. With each one, you can add captions, geotagged metadata or full-on blurbs to describe the situation. From there, you're able to carefully select who is able to contribute to the stream (a spouse or nanny, for instance), and who is simply able to view it (grandma, we're looking at you). The real magic, however, is in the presentation.

One thing for sure in the past few days would be this – HTC and Nokia cannot be the best of friends. It simply is not possible, as Nokia has brought HTC to task for using a microphone part which was originally meant for exclusive use in Nokia smartphones only, no thanks to an oversight by the folks over at STM Microelectronics who surprisingly enough in this day and age, has interpreted the contract that they signed with the Finnish smartphone manufacturer totally off the charts.

HTC One receiving update in Europe to improve camera software, as well as general performance and stability

It was one of my complaints with the HTC One in our review — the “UltraPixel” camera performs well (better than you've heard) but can weird out the white balance during low light shots, and HDR pictures and videos generally made pictures unusable. It looks like HTC is hot on the case, patching up some of these camera inconsistencies in an upcoming update.

Nokia announces Asha 210: a colorful QWERTY with a social heart, we go hands-on (video)

The first thing you notice here is the design language. As with the budget 105 and 301 offerings from MWC, the Asha 210 owes a lot of its looks to the current flagships, with more than a whiff of Lumia about them. This influence also spills over into the color options, which include the usual cyan, magenta, yellow and black plus white. We have to say that for a phone at this price point, it really isn't bad looking. The finish is soft-touch plastic, and while it's not one piece of polycarbonate, Nokia's at least gone to some efforts to make it look slightly similar, and we're happy to play along.

Egrips Non-Slip Strips review

Although I've written a lot of case reviews over the years, I personally prefer NOT to use one on my phone. I just don't care for the added bulk. Unfortunately my current phone, the Samsung Galaxy S3, is so slippery that I was forced to use a snap-on back cover to give it some extra grab action. I've been using the elago Breathe cover for months and although I have no major complaints about it, I decided I was tired of using it and went searching for an even thinner alternative.
